Mother’s Blessings

“All those clichés—those things you hear about having a baby and motherhood—all of them are true. And all of them are the most beautiful things you will ever experience.”

What is a Mother’s Blessing?

A mother’s blessing is different from a baby shower as it focuses on you and your transition to becoming a mother or a mother again. Instead of showering the baby, we are celebrating you! It is a beautiful way of bringing your close family and friends together to celebrate your journey. It can really a bring a sense of empowerment, joy and support as you prepare for your forthcoming birth!

Every Mother’s blessing ceremony is bespoke to you and how you would like to celebrate! A typical ceremony will include a group activity such as creating flower crowns, making affirmation bracelets (or an activity of your choice). Followed by a reading and sharing of some delicious food!

What happens in a Mother’s Blessing?

mothers blessing nottingham

Every mother’s blessing is bespoke to how you would like to feel and look. We will gather around a beautiful central table of flowers, candles, quotes- anything you want to include that is important to you.

The Ceremony

As your celebrant, I will lead the ceremony throughout so you can sit back and relax and enjoy the day. We will begin with introduction and a reading that celebrates motherhood (if you would like that) and then everyone will get a chance to introduce themselves, their connection to you and light a candle for the table.

Group Activity

I will lead a group activity of your choice which can include:

  • Making affirmation bracelets

  • Making affirmation cards for your birth

  • Flower crown arranging

  • Making an aromatherapy roller ball

  • Perhaps a gentle yoga relaxation or another activity

  • Creating a journal book together for you

  • Birth Blessing bead line

  • Flower arranging

  • Rose petal foot bath for you

  • Belly painting or belly cast

  • Any activity of your choice!

Red Thread Ceremony

If you would like we can continue the celebration with a red thread ceremony which is a beautiful way of honouring you and your forthcoming birth. The red thread symbolises the strength and power of motherhood and the support of friends and family. Each person will tie a red thread around their wrist and pass to the next guest and so forth until we are all connected by one thread.

We will then cut the thread and each person will keep the bracelet on until your baby is born and then remove it.

Closing of the Ceremony

The ceremony will close with a reading and we will then continue the celebration with food and drinks. Each guest is usually asked to bring some food to share!
