ABOUT ME
Hi I am Kerry-
You will find me most happy and content at home, with a fire on, glass of wine and a good book or baking whilst listening to some Ibiza classics or Smooth FM. I love to craft (if time allows these days!) and enjoy walking, yoga and raising my beautiful strong minded daughter. I am originally from London where I grew up and have been living in Nottingham with my husband, daughter and lively dog called Ray for several years.
I love all kinds of music, I have quite an eclectic taste! My daughter was born to the album “The XX” but I couldn’t quite tell you which exact track but every time I listen to it I am completely taken back to the moment I became a mother and my life transformed.
I grew up in a big family and from around the age of 7 I was helping to change nappies, wash, bath and feed my younger cousins. I loved caring and looking after the little ones! My sister was born when I was 19 and due to her being premature and having some health conditions she needed lots of extra support and care. Over the years as my friends had their babies I was providing postnatal support, dropping meals round, making lunch, giving them a little rest and helping to look after their little ones. It was wonderful sharing those moments and supporting my friends. I have always been drawn to helping and supporting others, it just comes natural to me. It is what I love about working in the birth world.
It may sound a bit cliche but I just fell in love with birth! Birth changed me forever, it showed me what it was to feel truly empowered. It is the most transformative moment in a woman or birthing a person's life and being able to be there for another person and care and support them in the way that changes their life is such an honour. I feel lucky to work with families in lots of different ways, whether it is helping them to learn about birth, supporting them during birth, caring from them postnatally or helping them to overcome trauma.
My Journey
I didn’t know at the start of my journey to working in the birth world that I would take the leap to train as a doula. As I began teaching hypnobirthing and working with trauma clients the more support I saw my clients needed. I didn’t just teach classes I was supporting couples through their pregnancy and sometimes birth virtually and postnatally with my knowledge and experience. It was then I decided to take the leap and began my doula training. For me it was important that I had the best foundation and training to feel confident to provide emotional and physical support they for pregnancy, birth and postpartum. It is why I chose to train with the Original Birth Connection for 6 months (which is the longest doula training course there is to date!) and included in person training, support from experienced doulas and midwifes and was so comprehensive in its training that I knew my clients would feel safe and trusted in working with me.
I have been lucky to train with some of the most experienced and knowledgeable birth keepers, midwifes and experienced doulas in the birth world and I work as a part of collective who share a passion to provide continuity of care and support to everyone.
Every mother and birthing person truly deserves to have continuity of care, support to have the birth they want and that is the foundation of all my work.
“Birth is not only about making babies. Birth is about making mothers--strong, competent, capable mothers who trust themselves and know their inner strength”
