Postnatal Doula Support Nottingham

Postpartum Support

The first few weeks post birth can sometimes feel overwhelming as you navigate your new role as a new mother/parent, whether it is your first, second or third baby! My role as a postnatal doula is to provide non-judgmental practical and emotional support to you and your family and ease this transition as you adjust to life with your new baby.

The fourth trimester is described as the first three months post birth where you transition to mother/parent hood and your baby transitions to life outside the womb.

I believe everyone deserves to feel supported, nourished and cared for during those first few months. In today’s world we often don’t live near friends or family or have support network or we may not feel like we can ask for help. My role is to give you that support network supporting you to rest, feel cared for and empowered during this transition. I will support you to feel confident as a parent and I will be guided by what you need to help you during those first few weeks and months.

I have supported many families postnatally across Nottingham. I work with each family on an individual basis by planning ahead with them for when their baby arrives to help support a gentle transition to your new family.

How I Support you as a Postnatal Doula

As a postnatal doula I support with:

  • Offering a non judegmental listening ear- you can tell me anything!

  • Debriefing and talking through your birth if you want to

  • Basic feeding support (breast/chest and bottle feeding)

  • Preparing light meals/lunches for you

  • Light house work so you can focus on you and your baby

  • Looking after your baby whilst you nap, have a bath or play with your other children if you would like me to

  • Playing with your older children whilst you bond with your baby

  • Running errands/picking up light shopping

  • Helping you with any chores that might make your day run more smoothly

  • Helping you to navigate those first few weeks

  • Assisting with bath time, nappy changing and preparing anything your baby may need

  • Coming with you to any appointments- they can feel daunting the fist time!

Postnatal Support Packages

Postnatal Planning

After an initial 30 minute free consultation we will meet antenatally for a 60 minute visit at your home to plan your postnatal sessions ahead.

My postnatal support can also be booked any time after your baby is born in the first 12 weeks post birth.

Visits

The first postnatal visit will usually take place within a few days/week of your birth or whenever you feel you would like my support.

Postnatal visits can also take place at your place of birth.

Visits can also take place before your baby is born to help you prepare in the home whether it is meal planing, packing your hospital bag or going through some baby care support.

During our first visit you have the option to talk through your birth (if you want to ) in a safe relaxed and comfortable space.

“I was looking for a doula specifically for postnatal support and came across Kerry - it ended up being the best decision working with her! During a period that can be completely overwhelming, she was there to help, both practically (making meals, helping set things up) and emotionally. If you are considering a doula, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her, she made the world of difference to me and my partner."

Hello, I am Kerry!

I grew up in a big family and from around the age of 7 I was helping to change nappies, wash, bath and feed my younger cousins. I loved caring and looking after the little ones! My sister was born when I was 19 and due to her arriving early and being premature and having some health conditions she needed lots of extra support and care. Over the years as my friends had their babies I was providing postnatal support, dropping meals round, making lunch, giving them a little rest and helping to look after their little ones. It was wonderful sharing those moments and supporting my friends. I have always been drawn to helping and supporting others, it just comes natural to me. It is what I love about working in the birth world.

It may sound a bit cliche but I just fell in love with birth! Birth changed me forever, it showed me what it was to feel truly empowered. It is the most transformative moment in a woman or birthing a person's life and being able to be there for another person and care and support them in the way that changes their life is such an honour. I feel lucky to work with families in lots of different ways, whether it is helping them to learn about birth, supporting them during birth, caring from them postnatally or helping them to overcome trauma.
